Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust
28 years of excellence in Telugu cinema has fetched Chiranjeevi a huge fan following and transformed him into one of the strongest opinion leaders in Andhra Pradesh. Chiranjeevi chose to streamline this fanaticism as a force for the social good.
Chiranjeevi incorporated Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust on October 2nd, 1998. The Trust was set up with Blood and Eye Donation wings. Chiranjeevi’s devoted fans took this movement to great heights and are still working towards spreading awareness in the fields of Blood and Eye Donation.
Chiranjeevi’s trust provides help in many emergency situations. The foremost activities include Blood bank and Eye donation. Over 20,000 people have donated blood and more than 10 lakh people have pledged their eyes through the Trust.
Chiranjeevi encourages people for blood donation and eye donation through various Audio and Visual means. A brief exhortation to come forward and donate blood and eyes is made by Chiranjeevi before each of his film’s beginning. A short talk by him is also given in audiocassettes of his films.
Chiranjeevi donates generously to the needy. Medical expenses assistance In genuine cases Chiranjeevi also gives assistance for medical expenses of poor people. The amount usually ranges from Rs 1.5 to 2 Lakhs. In these cases Chiranjeevi directly interacts with the patients and arranges the amount.
Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust has been started with two most important objectives,
- To effectively bridge the gap between the demand and supply of safe and screened blood in the society.
- To bring down the rate of blindness and help the visually impaired in the society.
Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust certain long term objectives:
- Provide Health Aid to the needy and the underprivileged.
- Establish and Maintain Blood banks, Eye Banks, Artificial limbs centers, research centers. Identifying various other areas where measures are required to provide better medical relief to a larger number of people quickly and effectively.
- Establish and Maintain Institutes for the treatment and rehabilitation and recreation of mentally and physically challenged children and adults.
- Provide Educational support to poor children, establishing educational centers, provide monetary aid to the deserving students through scholarships, stipends and so on.
- Establish and maintain Libraries for educational aid.
- Establish and maintain Old Age homes for the poor and sick.
- Establish and Maintain Hostels for destitute children.
- Establish and maintain Vocational training centers for the poor and destitute women and children
- To identify and carry out any other act that is necessary to realize the above objectives.
On January 1st 2005, Megastar Chiranjeevi donated Rs. 10 lakhs to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation of tsunami victims in Andhra Pradesh. Accompanied by the film producer Allu Arvind, Megastar Chiranjeevi called on the Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the Secretariat for presenting the cheque.
On January 10th 2005, Megastar Chiranjeevi also donated Rs. 10 lakhs towards Tsunami victims in Tamil Nadu by handing over the cheque to Tamilnadu’s chief minister Ms. Jayalalitha in Chennai. This makes the total donation by Megastar Chiranjeevi as Rs. 20 lakhs.
Rasta Chiranjeevi Yuvatha donated Rs. 6 lakhs for relief and rehabilitation activities in Andhra Pradesh state. Mega brother Nagababu, Rasta Chiranjeevi Yuvatha members Swamy Naidu, Ch. Venkateswara Rao, Ramu Yadav and other members presented the cheque to CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
